Clinical Nurse Practitioner - RGN
Sue qualified in both adult and child nursing from Westminster Hospital, London. She initially worked in nursing then commercial aviation. Having returned to nursing she later settled into private practice working for an eminent Consultant Dermatologist, Dr Richard Staughton, as both his nurse and practice manager.
In 1986 she was trained in microsclerotherapy by Mr John Scurr, Consultant Vascular Surgeon and treated his patients over several years.
In 1997 she was recruited to establish the private practice for Mr Philip Coleridge Smith DM FRCS and helped to develop the practice to deliver high quality of care for the investigation and treatment of venous disease. Along with Mr Coleridge Smith, Sue was instrumental in introducing Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy to the UK.
Sue was responsible for setting up The British Vein Institute with the intention of providing the most effective methods of diagnosis and management of vein disorders by acclaimed venous specialists. Sue has also organised workshops in microsclerotherapy for members of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and BACN and a founder Board Member and Chairman for Associate Membership of the European Venous Forum and Founder Member as well as an Advisory Board Member of The British Association of Sclerotherapists.
In 2006 she was awarded the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland First Prize – John Wiley Audio-Visual Award along with Mr Coleridge Smith for their video on the treatment of veins with Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. Additionally, Sue has significant experience in radiofrequency and laser ablation procedures for the treatment of varicose veins.
Sue’s most recent venture was creating a clinic in Amersham for Adsum Healthcare for excellent treatment of patients with venous disease but also to incorporate Adsum Aesthetics.
I would like to express my thanks for the excellent microsclerotherapy work you have done on my legs. My legs were in an awful condition before I started at the Whiteley Clinic. All the deeper veins were treated but I still had very ugly superficial veins showing. The sessions I have had with you have completely transformed the appearance of my legs so that now I feel I can wear short shift dresses for the first time for 30 years. You were kind and considerate in the way you dealt with me as well as producing excellent results. So thank you very much.
Sue Topp has treated my leg veins with sclerotherapy that neither other practitioners (I have tried several), nor laser treatments, have come close to being able to improve as effectively. Though they were not large, I am pale and have see-through, mottled skin, so they were visible and gave a bad colour. As I dance I wanted to be able to show my legs but was too self conscious without putting make up on and was unable to expose my legs in summer. Sue however in one treatment cleared up so many that my legs were clear in tone for me to be able to wear short skirts and shorts and on subsequent treatments she has picked up the really minuscule thread veins. She never dismissed them as too small but took trouble to treat them successfully. I am so grateful, it has been depressing looking at thread veins (on otherwise okay shaped legs!) and now they are immaculate! Thank you so much.
My legs are unrecognisably different. This has made such a difference to my life, particularly in the recent hot weather. I have been able to wear shorts and short dresses for the first time in many years.
I will be wearing thin tights with confidence at my son’s wedding this week and won’t be embarrassed by veins on holiday the following week.
Thank you so much, you have really made a difference to my life.
